Barbara G. POSTELNEK"The human body is a work of art. I add the essence and energy of the model and create changes to suit my own aesthetic. Each figure, regardless of body type, is sensual, grounded and has volume. I want the viewer to contemplate the shape, movement, and mood of my sculpture." BP
Barbara G. Postelnek grew up in the suburbs of Maryland where she regularly visited the museums of Washington, DC. Art classes were added to her general education. Her degree was earned in Behavioral Sciences from the University of Maryland.
In 1980 she visited New York and never left, the artistic energy was the attraction. In 1985 her husband’s cancer was a reminder that life is unpredictable and one should act and follow their interests. She began studying sculpture at the NATIONAL ACADEMY OF DESIGN SCHOOL OF FINE ART, earned 3 years of scholarships from the NATIONAL SCULPTURE SOCIETY, won awards from several New York institutions, and placed in galleries in Washington, DC and Santa Fe.
A collector of her work participated in a fine art exchange with the USSR in 1989 and showed the bronze “It Doesn’t Matter”. An example from the edition of this work is now part of the permanent collection of THE BUTLER INSTITUTE OF AMERICAN ART in Ohio, opening in 1919 as the first museum dedicated to collecting American artists.
